The house is at the top of the hill, opposite the Appalachian Trail Conservancy. Within walking distance of Marc Trains to DC, Bus Stops, Restaurants, A wine Shop, The Post Office, and Harpers Ferry National park with its many historical attractions, restaurants and visitors shops. Thomas Jefferson once said “the Scene from Jefferson Rock is worth a voyage across the Atlantic”
Age, Architecture and Design - Simple Federal style , built in 1992-93 and designed by a former national park architect. With a stairwell on each end, two vestibules, 4 exterior entrances, 6 bedrooms and 5 and a half baths, the house can easily be adapted for many types of use. From 1993 through 2012, it was a successful bed and breakfast with a 3 bedroom owner’s quarters. The design also allowed for a concurrent picture framing business that was run in the lower walk out basement level. These businesses both closed over 2 years ago when we retired. The house is being sold as an extremely versatile private residence that has many possibilities for its future owners.
Structure and Materials A strong, dry, steel reinforced poured concrete foundation with brick texture. It is wood structure with German cedar siding and a period standing seam metal roof with strong metal gutters. The living room, dining room, all bedrooms and hallway floors are period style tongue and grove pine. All exterior walls are insulated with R13 insulation. Second floor ceilings are insulated with R30 fiberglass bats and blown fiberglass as necessary.
Utilities The house is connected to city Water and Sewer. There is also a downspout and rain barrel system that normally provides enough water for all the outside plantings and gardens. There are two high efficiency Heat Pump /AC unites with efficient propane backup furnaces for very cold weather.
There is a 200 AMP electrical service.
Garage and parking - There is an attached oversized two car garage plus a three car off street parking lot.
Handicapped Friendly - There is ramp entrance from the parking area and a large bedroom with a handicapped friendly bathroom on the first floor. (A room for Mom)
